SymbioTest Module Descriptions

SymbioTest is modular in design, is comprehensive and easy-to-use platform that helps organize the testing process and effectively manage testing activity. Using this model-driven process, the integration, control, visibility, and traceability are kept throughout the different stages of the testing process.

SymbioTest’s interface and integrated management modules allows a customized testing process to fit the needs of any organization..

Complying with the guidelines of software testing, SymbioTest is comprised of the following five modules:

  • The Define module allows the test requirements, test cases, and test data tables to be documented even before testing begins.
  • The Plan module allows detailed test plans to be created that incorporates created test cases.
  • The Execute module allows a user to arrange the existing repository of test cases into test sets at runtime, and schedule and execute the test sets.
  • The Track module provides integrated project tracking system that allows documenting the identified issues and tracking them during the testing process.
  • The Analyze module allows every aspect of the testing process and test information to be analyzed using a set of template reports
  • The Configure module maintains a management system that allows certain tasks to be performed by designated users

Define module: Test Construction from the ground up

SymbioTest allows a user to identify test cases, which are linked to a list of requirements, and connected to test data tables. During application development, a user can create sub-requirement branches. As soon as the detailed functional requirements of the target application is known, test cases can be constructed from a built-in set of test objects. Test cases specify a list of both actions on the part of a user or automation tool, and identify the expected results from the target application in response to those actions.

The emphasis on test case requirements management helps reduce the slippages, setbacks and even failures in the software product development life cycle. The easy-to-use interface encourages a structured approach to the use requirements and test cases.

The Visual Recorder is used to simulate real user iteration with the application under test conditions through application screenshots, and helps present GUI objects in the application.

Plan module: Planning with support and storage

SymbioTest allows created test cases, or test case sets, to be attached to specific test plans. This module supports a multi-user environment making it possible to access and check in changes during product development. Integrating with WebDAV technology as a Web Server Document Repository, SymbioTest empowers a user to store and read documentation online by utilizing its MS Word Add-In.

The test plan outlines specific reproducible tests, manual or automated, that verify the accuracy of the implementation. Test criteria can include:

  • database integrity
  • functional correctness
  • fault tolerance
  • stability and reliability
  • performance

Execute module: Real-time monitoring of test cases

SymbioTest allows a user to arrange the existing repository of test cases into test sets at runtime. A user is provided with the full-fledged monitoring capability of executing and scheduling test sets on any automation tool host on the network. SymbioTest also supports executing test cases manually by allowing a user to selectively choose and run specific test cases within a project. Each run is documented in an automatically generated log file.

Test cases can be scheduled by setting the host and time for a specific test to be executed. Not only can the test cases be scheduled, previous test cases can be examined. The run scheduler process allows test cases to be run and viewed in real-time. This means that a team member can see how the test case is running on an automated host in real-time, no matter where the location.

Track module: Manage every aspect of the testing process

SymbioTest spares our customers from the embarrassment of miscommunication. Our Track module is more than just another 'bug-tracking' database, but a comprehensive project workflow management system. Every team member can post a project related issue (may it be a defect from a third party customer or wishful thinking of a business analyst) without having it fall through the cracks.

SymbioTest allows users to manage every aspect of a project's progress. The Track module is a project workflow management system that allows the following elements to be tracked:

  • defects
  • requests
  • questions
  • enhancements

Every team member can post a project related issue.

Analyze Module: Analysis made easy

SymbioTest allows every aspect of the testing process and test information to be analyzed using a set of template reports. Special report options produce attractive, analyst-friendly documentation, or permit you to export to MS Excel, Word or PDF format.

In every testing process, it is vital to gather information to easily determine the status of each testing element. The various SymbioTest reports and their respective criteria, allow a user to browse information that can greatly help in the testing process.

Project managers can use the reports to better understand progress, and to better utilize time and resources.

Configure module: Manage the testing environment and teams

SymbioTest maintains a management system that allows certain tasks to be performed only by designated people only. The Configure module is the key to running SymbioTest in a managed fashion among the testing team.
